Dear Friends and Neighbours,
It is my honour to have been re-elected to continue to represent the great people of the riding of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound.
I accept this responsibility humbly and sincerely pledge to work on your behalf to the best of my ability every day. It is my goal to earn and maintain your trust and confidence, and to represent you in a professional manner that will make you proud to call me your MPP.
It has been an exciting time over the past 4 ½ years. From my nomination campaign to the general election campaign and then my re-election to a second term, it remains a privilege to serve as your Member of Provincial Parliament. The learning curve is monumental, the volume of information overwhelming, and the pace staggering…and I am thoroughly enjoying every minute of it!
We find ourselves in very challenging times, particularly in regard to the state of our finances and our employment situation. My role as a member of the Official Opposition is to hold the government of the day to account; to ensure they are utilizing your tax dollars in an effective manner and providing value for every dollar spent…all the while trying to offer suggestions that will have a positive impact and result for the people of our great province.
My caucus colleagues are committed to doing our job to the best of our abilities on behalf of our constituents. The government needs to do better. We can do better. We will do better.
Our Party is committed to creating jobs and reducing the debt and deficit, and ensuring government spends within its means while providing the most effective programs and services possible. We must focus on our financial realities if we are to return the great province of Ontario to the leader of Confederation once again, and to provide hope and opportunity for our children and grandchildren.
On a personal note, I have been appointed as Critic for Seniors and Long Term Care and will endeavour to hold the government to account, while bringing new ideas to these very important portfolios. I am also working on several initiatives designed to create significant new employment in our riding, while, at the same time, recognizing the need to protect the natural heritage in our community. Protecting clean water, increasing tourism, helping small business, ensuring that our aging infrastructure is maintained and improved and ensuring the highest possible level of public safety are other key goals I have set for myself during this term of government. Of course, my team and I continue to make the day-to-day issues of our constituents our first priority.
My goal is to ensure you have the best possible representation and, to that end, I have been fortunate to maintain a great team of experienced and capable staff members to deal with all of your local concerns. Great customer service is our highest priority and I encourage you to contact Julie, Karen and Lisa (constituency office) or Ana (Queen’s Park) or myself if you have any questions or concerns about any provincial programs, legislation or policies.
Please use this website to access a wide range of government forms and to get information on the most popular programs and services. We have also included links to key municipal and federal agencies, boards, commissions and programs and we welcome any feedback as to how we can make this website an even more useful resource for you, your family and your business.
Your insights are important. I encourage you to communicate your ideas and concerns so as to ensure I can remain connected to all parts of our vast and great riding. If you have a business opening, a special event such as 60th wedding anniversary or milestone birthday or business anniversary, or you'd like me to speak to your community group, please contact my constituency office and we'll do our best to accommodate your request.
My door is always open and I welcome the opportunity to serve and represent you in the years to come.
Bill Walker, MPP
